Xiang Jing’s first sculptures are no more than half a meter tall in size. Since 1998, Xiang commenced what could be seen as her pre-mirror image experimentations and transformations with a few attempts at busts. The confinement and impenetrability of individuality, and the invasion of the outside world, form the basic theme in these pieces of works. This theme is fully expanded in the later series, “Mirror Image” (1999-2002).
