“Naked Beyond Skin” (Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Madrid)

“Naked Beyond Skin” series contains Xiang Jing’s hard work from 2006 to 2008, and reflects her in-depth exploration into the “identity issue ”. At the beginning of creating this collection of works, Xiang Jing announced publicly that this collection of works would conclude the phase relevant to “the female theme”. So it was the artist’s intention to plan an Asia-touring exhibition - she endeavors to take her work to face more audience directly. It reflects an effort to prove the “self-apprehensibility” of art, and also a rebuttal against the prevailing trend of concept-driven contemporary art. Different from other artists who usually place the foremost importance to Beijing as the first stop, Xiang Jing purposefully plans for Beijing to be the final stop of the tour. The varying difference of each exhibition site poses difficulty for the artist. To accommodate, only selected works can be shown at each exhibition site, until the final stop of Beijing, where a full representation of all the works are shown. The use of mirrors at exhibition site enables Xiang Jing to realize her “psychological spectacle” - a concept that is very captivating to the artist. The mirrors also become the most mesmerizing visual memory at these exhibitions for the audience.
