Mixing art and home-living: Xiang Jing in No 5. Xiaowei Hutong Exhibition at Art Beijing 2016

2016-05

Invited by Dong Mengyang, founder of Art Beijing, Xiang Jing participates in No. 5 Xiaowei Hutong special exhibition (the second round). Art Beijing is one of the longest running art fairs in mainland China.

Xiaowei Hutong is where the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) was located and the founder Dong Mengyang invited his former classmates at CAFA to jointly show in this special exhibition at Art Beijing, where artists are asked to show their works together with selected home furniture pieces.

Xiang Jing chooses to show her Otherworld – The Invulnerable Beast together with Chinese local home furniture brand Zaozuo Living. The final ensemble look is refreshing – the sculpture, chairs by Zaozuo, the artist’s own carefully grown plants are mixed together to present a youthful ambiance. Xiang Jing tries to rearrange furniture creatively as if they are abstract sculpture and therefore breaks the clear boundary between art and design. Here, art and home design are not in conflict, but the key lies in how to best tune in the right colours, also mix and match.

Xiang Jing expresses that it is a delightful experience working on the project, which she is not usually accustomed to!
