Tradition and Innovation: The Human Figure in Contemporary Chinese Art 2015

This major spring exhibition at the Chazen Museum displays twenty artworks of different media, presenting various connotations and possibilities that “the human figure” can carry. Viewers are exhilarated by the creativity and artistic expression emanating from the exhibited Chinese contemporary art.
The four works by Xiang Jing come from four different phases on the artist’s creative track. Chazen Museum director Russell Panszenko, the scholar who has earnestly promoted the communication between Chinese contemporary art and the West, masterfully places Xiang Jing’s sculptures in an intriguing conversation with paintings by other artists, which help viewers immerse in the context of Chinese contemporary art.
