Producing art, curating an exhibition, making an exhibition catalogue – these are three different things. When producing art, one ponders about within a closed system; the task is to formulate a structure, transform questions in one’s mind into concrete artworks and find a work logic – at this stage, all that is at issue exists exclusively within the artist’s head.
Curating is also a form of creating art, but from the author’s perspective, one comes out of the closed system and dives into an open ground; and the task is to construct various kinds of communication channels for different audiences. Spatial properties are intrinsic to sculptures, and as such the relationship between a sculpture and the space surrounding it brings forth a multitude of possibilities for extension. The joy of curating an exhibition lies in the fact that the same and definite piece of artwork will come to meet with spaces and audiences that are indefinite and unpredictable by nature – it is a kind of limitation as much as it is a kind of freedom.
