“Keep in Silence”, Art Seasons Gallery, Beijing, 2006

Keep in Silence touches upon a complex set of subjects and issues, and experiments with a number of sculpting languages. The Virgin Series and the Body Series within Keep in Silence are first attempts at addressing identity-related problems for Xiang Jing, and serve as preliminary trials for many of her later works. Xiang Jing’s conscious and tactful way of using and manipulating exhibition space also starts with this exhibition – her successful curation of Keep in Silence allows for a multitude of possible interactions between the audience and the artworks, where different psychological scenes and scenarios are found.

On-site description
“I set up a wall at the end of the exhibition hall, one that conceals a rather tall, isolated space. A flight of stairs guides the audience upwards, and that is where you will find Adumbration – for Wu Shuang. She is brilliantly lit up, and you will have to contend with her horror-struck face. The Virgin Series is placed in the middle of the exhibition hall. And You? is placed right at the grand entrance – outside the doorway only the lower portion beneath the waist is seen, so the 4 meter (13 ft) tall sculpture certainly puts up quite a surprise for the incoming audience.”
