Xiang Jing's work "Slipping, Ticktack Ticktack" shows in Austria for the first time at "China Now” at SAMMLUNG ESSL Museum

The exhibition has been organised by Feng Boyi, an important independent curator and art critic. Focusing on several main themes dealing with major developments in the Chinese avant-garde since 1990, about a 100 works of art by 42 artists are on display. All contemporary art media – including spacious installations and video, besides painting and photography – are represented. The exhibition will tour to Cobra Museum of Modern Art in the Netherlands in 2007.

Karlheinz Essl has been a keen observer of Chinese art since the 1990’s. This exhibition is largely based on the works he purchased during his visits to various art studios in Shanghai and Beijing over the past few years.

The exhibition affords an opportunity to become familiar with the explosive potential inherent in the diverse approaches to contemporary Chinese art. It is the first comprehensive museum presentation of chinese avant-garde in Austria.
