Beauty is Created by Experience - The Kunqu Opera Themed Female Artists Invitation Exhibition 2021

July 25th, 2021 - the Kunqu Opera Themed Female Artists Invitation Exhibition, “Beauty, Created with Experience” opened quietly with strict COVID prevention regulations, at the Aimer Kunqu Opera Experience Center - formerly the Suzhou Academy of Kunqu Opera, after the COVID breakouts in Nanjing and Suzhou. Celebrating the 100-year Anniversary of the founding of Suzhou Academy of Kunqu Opera, it is of profound meaning to hold a Chinese contemporary art exhibition featuring 24 female artists’ works. The exhibition was curated by Xiao Ge and Jonas Stampe, with academic consultion from Yin Jinan. With the artistic explorations of the participating female artists, the exhibition presents the viewer not only breadth and creativity of Chinese contemporary art, but also the artists’ pioneer imagination, techniques and poeticity in painting, sculpture, photography, video, performance, installation, printmaking, and NFT.
This is wholly an exhibition of the feminine art. It opposes the perennial unbelievable low ratio of women’s names in all major group exhibitions. Thus to a certain extent, the exhibition is also a claim; it presents the works while raises a question worth reflection: how will the feminine values form contemporary aesthetics?
